 Ever wondered how to take care of your lingerie? Most lingerie items are extremely delicate, so it is no surprise that some people choose to only hand wash their garments. But let’s face it: washer machines were invented to save us time. Below are some tips to help you save time, and your lingerie, on your next laundry spree.
- Always make sure you read the garments directions. This is the most important step.
- Use a laundry mesh bag (found at most dollar stores) to protect the garment from friction against the rest of the load. Also, make sure they are loose inside the bag or otherwise they won’t wash well.
- Use cold water and a delicate detergent. Don’t forget to use your washer’s delicate cycle. It’s there for a reason.
- Avoid mixing lingerie with tougher fabrics like jeans or towels. Not only will the added friction will damage your precious lace panties, but the lint on that black teddy is not sexy.
- Avoid using the drier, but if it’s an emergency, use the lowest temperature available and don’t leave them drying for a long time. Most undergarments (including bras, shapewear and panties) are made of water repelling fibers, so they dry out pretty fast. Plus, don’t forget that excessive heat will tear down their elasticity, not a good thing to happen to your brand new shapewear.
- When washing bras, make sure their fastened to avoid snagging against other fabrics.
- And the golden rule: always separate lights from darks. You don’t want that white set to catch all the dye from your red bra, right?
